The EU Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS) is considered to be the cornerstone of European climate change policy. The system covers 27 countries, more than 12,000 installations and about 45% of Europe’s green-house gas emissions.
| The EU ETS has been in operation since 2005. All of those involved are learning and the scheme is still evolving. Its further development, including the potential to link to other markets, will determine both the environmental outcome and the impact on participants and other stakeholders. It is therefore important for all parties to prepare themselves for upcoming changes. This is also to for many other countries around the world where ETS-based systems are increasingly being applied. |
