CarMon™: the carbon monitoring and reporting tool


In Europe, policies are moving towards a carbon-constrained economy. Since 1 January 2005 the European Emission Trading Scheme has come into force. Under this scheme, companies are obliged to monitor and report their carbon emissions to the relevant authorities. At the same time, they need to know what their current position is in order to make sound decisions. Ecofys has developed CarMon, a monitoring and reporting tool that will help you fulfill your legal obligations, provide monitoring management information and facilitate decision-making on all levels within your organisation.

What is CarMon?

CarMon is a software module that is designed to fulfill your monitoring and reporting obligations as laid out in the EU and national monitoring guidelines. The software module consists of a web-based database in which relevant installations, metering devices -including their accuracy-, monthly CO2 emission data (activity data) and associated tiers are stored. With this data CarMon generates the required emission monitoring report.

Because the software generates automated emission reports, verification can be done at lower costs. In addition, the module provides monthly management information about the company’s position, making it easy for executives to decide whether to take on-site reduction measures, buy CO2-credits or sell superfluous credits. The software is designed to aggregate and report emission information on different levels, thus facilitating monitoring and managing emissions for multiple site organisations.
