Utrecht, 16 April 2008 – Today, Ad van Wijk, Chairman of the Board of Econcern, a leading sustainable energy company, won the energy sector’s ‘Influencer of the Year’ award. He received the award at the StrategiePlatform Energie, determined by a poll of senior decision makers at Dutch energy companies. The other two nominees were Joost van Dijk, CEO of E.ON, and Marcel Kramer, Chairman of the Board and Managing Director of N.V. Nederlandse Gasunie.

Each year, key energy sector decision makers gather at the StrategiePlatform Energie to exchange visions and discuss the future of the sector.

Ad van Wijk is proud to win the award: ‘The value of this award for me is that I was selected by decision makers from the energy sector itself. I’m honoured that these specialists consider me the most innovative in the sector. It gives me extra drive to fulfil our mission at Econcern: “a sustainable energy supply for everyone”.’

Van Wijk was previously declared Master Entrepreneur of the Year 2007, a competition organised by Ernst & Young. Econcern’s Chairman of the Board is also still in contention to become World Entrepreneur of the Year as one of the international list of nominees from more than 40 countries.

In March, Econcern won the CMS Business of the Year Award. The award is part of the European Business Awards, a fully independent programme, designed to highlight the importance of regional businesses to the overall economy.
