Benchmarking study for free emission allowances made public
6 November - In 2013, the EU will change the rules for the free distribution of allowances within the EU Emissions Trading Scheme. This week, Ecofys delivered a report to the European Commission on a new allocation methodology, which is based on benchmarking. The associated study will be an important technical input for the European Commission when it prepares a proposal for assigning free allowances for EU ETS installations. Today, Member States and stakeholders will be informed about the study by Maarten Neelis, Ecofys project manager for the study.

Ambitious emission reductions cost-neutral for the EU
28 October 2009 - Greenhouse gas emissions in the EU can be cut to 30% below 1990 levels by 2020 (45% by 2030). The way to achieve this is to replace energy-related equipment at the end of its economic life with energy-efficient, low-carbon technologies. In the SERPEC-CC project, which was published today, a new greenhouse abatement cost curve has been calculated for the EU27, including the emission reduction potential and costs to society of 650 technologies in ten major sectors.
