Econcern
doubles turnover in 2003
Econcern,
the holding company of Ecofys, Ecostream, Evelop and Ecoventures,
has been able to continue strong growth, despite difficult market
conditions. Turnover in 2003 grew to € 37 million, compared to
€ 18 million in 2002. Profit increased to
€ 1,8 million, but was largely used to finance the start-up of
Innogrow, the company selling closed greenhouses.
Highlights
2003
Ad van Wijk, CEO, commented:
"Econcern's diversification and commercialisation strategy is beginning
to pay off. Our consultancy Ecofys is our knowledge centre and core
to the future growth and value creation within the holding. However,
it is no longer the main revenue and profit generator. System sales
and project development have become just as important." This is
reflected by the following highlights in 2003:
- Ecofys took a leading role in implementing greenhouse gas emission
trading in Europe. The company organised highly successful workshops
in several countries, completed the Monitoring and Reporting Guidelines
for greenhouse gas emissions for the EU, worked with the Polish
government to draw up the national allocation plan and won four
large projects in the UK on carbon management for large industrial
clients.
- Ecostream boosted international solar systems sales, delivering
over 4 megawatt of solar power systems, including two large-scale
systems, over 3,000 household systems, and 75,000 solar power
integration products.
- Project development company Evelop sold a wind project and
emission credits from CDM projects. Evelop also won a concession
in the UK to realise a 315 MW offshore wind farm.
- Start-up Innogrow won the Innovation Award at the international
Horti Fair and delivered the first commercial closed greenhouse
in the Netherlands. The closed greenhouse is an innovative concept
that results in 20% higher greenhouse production while reducing
energy, water and pesticide use.
Outlook
2004
Compared to the market conditions
in other countries where Econcern is active, the outlook for Econcern
in the UK is good. Ad van Wijk: "The demand for renewable energy
and climate change consultancy continues to increase, especially
in the area of emissions trading and carbon management. We expect
to achieve a strong growth in this market."
